American Council in Germany's Announcement to Kellen Alumni

In recent months we at the American Council in Germany have been evaluating our programs and activities - including our journalism programs. We have been considering the most effective ways to continue to support journalists and to enrich this network of alumni. As you may know, in addition to the Kellen Fellowship, the ACG supports journalists through the McCloy Fellowships in Journalism and the ACG Journalism Fellowship. Over 200 journalists in the US and Germany have been supported by these three programs over the years, comprising a vibrant alumni network on both sides of the Atlantic.

From 2007 on, the ACG will assume sole responsibility for the management of the Kellen Fellowship program. The collaboration with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) over the past few years and the interaction with the IJP's Arthur F. Burns Fellowship program more recently, has surely been a benefit to many of you, and we encourage you to maintain the important friendships and contacts you may have developed with the Burns fellows, the ICFJ, and IJP. We will, however, no longer use ICFJ's services, and future Kellen fellows will not attend the Burns program orientation in Washington, D.C.

As we restructure the Kellen Fellowship to possibly include American participants alongside the Berlin fellows, arrange program meetings in both Berlin and the US, and hold Kellen Fellowship alumni functions, Steven Sokol and I may call upon your expertise as former Kellen Fellows for suggestions and recommendations. We also look forward to keeping you connected with the wider network of ACG fellows through our ACG Fellowship E-Newsletter.

Although travel schedules for the spring are still in flux, we plan invite all Kellen alumni to a gathering in Berlin with ACG President William Drozdiak, Steve, or myself during the next trip to Germany. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me or Steve with any questions or suggestions.

Best wishes,
Ted
