THE POWER OF ELECTIONS
A Tribute to Photojournalists
Photo Exhibit and Auction

International Center for Journalists
2008 Annual Awards Dinner | November 12, 2008
The Paley Center for Media, New York | October 1 - November 5, 2008

At our 2008 Awards Dinner, the International Center for Journalists paid tribute to photojournalists. Often the unsung heroes of our profession, they frequently work on the front lines, putting their lives at risk to bring us vital news images. In a special exhibit called The Power of Elections, we showcased the work of renowned photographers who have captured pivotal moments in history, including Pakistan's Benazir Bhutto, campaigning just before her assassination, and the barrier-breaking candidates in the U.S. presidential campaign.

These signed photos were available for bidding at a silent auction, held at our dinner and online at www.icfj.org/photoauction.. We are most grateful to the participating photojournalists, who generously donated their work, and to all of our friends who bid. Proceeds will be used for programs designed to advance quality journalism worldwide and to purchase camera equipment for photographers in developing countries. Special thanks to Gary Fabiano and Eileen O’Connor for helping us organize this exhibit.

The collection was also featured at the Paley Center for Media in New York from Oct. 1 - Nov. 5. In conjuction, we held  a panel discussion on The Power of Elections: Photojournalism and the Democratic Process. The panel was moderated by ICFJ Chairman and Foreign Affairs Editor James F. Hoge, the panelists included award-winning photographers Gary Fabiano, Timothy Fadek, Christopher Hondros, and John Smock, as well as BusinessWeek's Assistant Managing Editor for International Policy Christopher Power.
