ETHNIC MEDIA AND
THE ECONOMIC RECOVERY

Will the stimulus package help bridge the digital divide?

The Obama administration's stimulus package is meant to increase broadband access in lower-income communities. Is it having the desired effect? Are minority communities now becoming more digital? Are ethnic radio stations, often the primary source of information in their communities, able to take advantage of the Internet to expand their reach?

A panel of experts will answer these questions and more on the changing landscape for ethnic media in the United States. The discussion is part of a program called, "Escucha! Taking Community Radio Digital in the Americas." This two-year initiative will bring together 18 Spanish-language community radio journalists from the United States and Latin America for digital radio training and the creation of an Internet platform to exchange stories across borders. The program is run by the International Center for Journalists and funded by the McCormick Foundation.
