International Center for Journalists Chairman James F. Hoge, Jr.,
will complete an outstanding eight-year term

Washington, DC – Michael Golden, the vice chairman of The New York Times Company, will replace Foreign Affairs Editor James F. Hoge, Jr. as Chairman of the Board of the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ). ICFJ is a Washington, DC-based non-profit organization that raises journalism standards through hands-on training workshops, seminars, fellowships and international exchanges.

Starting in November, Golden will become the organization’s third chairman since its founding 25 years ago. He joined ICFJ’s Board in 2002 and became its vice chairman last year. He has had a distinguished career in international journalism. In March 2009, he became president and chief operating officer for The New York Times Company Regional Media Group. Prior to that, he was publisher of the International Herald Tribune, based in Paris. He has served as vice chairman of the Times Company since 1997.

“Michael’s extensive media experience here and abroad and his effective service as an ICFJ director make him the ideal leader at a time of increasing demand for ICFJ’s respected training programs,” Hoge said.

Under Hoge’s leadership, ICFJ has nearly doubled in size, reaching tens of thousands of journalists, students and media managers in more than 170 countries. He has served on the ICFJ Board since 1993 and will remain an active member. ICFJ’s first Chairman was the organization’s co-founder and Boston Globe Editor Tom Winship.
