Students and faculty advisors worked all weekend to get ready, but it was worth it as Radio Akademika began live broadcasts on Monday, Sept. 15.
Short of sleep, nervous and wild-eyed, the UNTL journalism class faced their moment of truth on Monday morning--and passed with flying colors, as Radio Akademika went live with its first news program.
ICFJ trainers Paula Rodrigues and Francez Suni basically abandoned their families to oversee the final 48 hours leading up to the broadcast, as the students rushed to finish editing their pieces and the presenters honed their pronunciation.
The classroom took on that familiar don't-talk-to-us-we're-on-deadline tension, down to discarded fast-food wrappers and heated debates over final edits. Production teams shared responsibility, following each other in a smooth progression throughout the morning.
And as soon as each crew left the studio to return to the newsroom next door, you could see the realization strike: oh my God, we have to do it all again for tomorrow!
