ICFJ recently concluded the McGraw-Hill Personal Finance Reporting Program, a six-week online course in personal finance journalism for U.S. Spanish-language journalists.
These online courses are part of a series of workshops in the Hispanic Personal Finance Program that has trained more than 100 journalists from print, radio, television and on-line media outlets in the United States. The courses address the full spectrum of critical personal finance topics, including investing, consumer debt, financial planning, mortgages, and retirement planning.
Online courses will not include regular assignments but journalists will also be paired with mentors to facilitate their learning. ICFJ has also conducted in-person workshops in Denver, New York, Washington, DC, and San Diego.
The instructors for the courses are:
English-language instruction is by Chris Roush, who teaches business and economics reporting at the University of North Carolina and has written six books, including two about business journalism.
English-language instruction is by Xavier Serbia, the editor-in-chief and founder of Xavierserbia.com. Serbia is a personal finance syndicated columnist and has written for various Hispanic media outlets.
On Sept. 28, ICFJ announced the winners of the first McGraw-Hill Personal Finance Journalism Awards. To read about the winners, or to attend the awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 27, please click here.
