Join thousands of journalists worldwide on ICFJ's International Journalists' Network (IJNet). Take part in this week's discussion question, which asks: "Does family or religion ever lead you to self-censor?"
You will need to register and create a profile in order to participate in IJNet discussions. Since we launched a redesigned IJNet site a few months ago, hundreds of you have already created profiles. We knew we had to be there early today, in order to avoid long lines. We were (relatively) early, but thousands were already waiting.
After our excursion into the mountains, we stopped for lunch and then parked the van at the media parking garage. From our third floor parking spot we already got a taste of how many people lined up to see Sen. Obama speak that evening.
Pulling out the old media card - 'sorry, but we have to take some pictures of the long line' - got us in front of an estimated 2,000 people (very rough estimate as it was impossible to see where people started to line up from our vantage point).
Nevertheless, we made it through the security checkpoints within half an hour or so. It went surprisingly fast, once we had that headstart.
