Iraqi Journalist, Shadha Al-Jubori Shares how the Knight International Journalism Award Changed Her Life

February 26, 2008

Listen to the Podcast Interview

The International Center for Journalists recently caught up with 2006 Knight International Journalism Award recipient, Shadha Al-Jubori. As a correspondent for the BBC’s Arabic-language service, Shadha al-Jubori was forced to keep her job, and often her identity, hidden for security reasons. In this part of the world, al-Jubori’s basic survival was a daily struggle. The nature of her work, as well as domestic situations, made it impossible to distinguish friend from foe. The only people she could trust were her mother, sister and BBC colleagues, making life very lonely. Al-Jubori was given a Knight International Journalism Award as a result of her ability to maintain reporting excellence amidst these daily obstacles. Today, al-Jubori works for Asharq Al-Awsat, an Arab newspaper in London.
