ICFJ Offers Online Course in Investigative Journalism in Arabic
The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is currently running an online training course in Investigative Journalism for Arabic-speaking journalists. Titled “An Introduction to Investigative Journalism,” the course will take place from June 1 to July 13, 2009.
The six-week course is led by:
Daoud Kuttab: an award-winning Palestinian journalist and founder of Amman.net.. He is an expert in community radio both offline and online.
Hoda Osman: a former filed producer at the investigative unit of ABC News in New York. Hoda is also the Vice President of the Arab and Middle Eastern Journalist Association (AMEJA).
Among the topics that are covered during the course: How investigative reporting differs from other types of reporting; how to find story ideas; how to develop sources; the importance of public records for an investigative report and how best to use them; effective Internet research; what is computer-assisted reporting (CAR); how to conduct effective interviews; using undercover reporting; organizing and writing an investigative report; ethical considerations when working on an investigative report.
