Alumni of the Global Business Journalism (GBJ) Program at Tsinghua University gathered Dec. 7 in Beijing for the first reunion of the 5-year-old program. About 40 graduates, journalism professors, and friends of the program attended the dinner reception.

Graduates took turns giving updates on their careers and plans.

As a Knight International Journalism Fellow Kathie Klarreich built the capacity of Haitian journalists to investigate how aid that poured into the country after the 2010 earthquake is being used. In a recent piece in The Nation Klarreich explains how NGOs used these funds, circumventing the government and ignoring the real needs of the people.

Forty pioneering digital journalism projects have been shortlisted as finalists in the inaugural $1 million African News Innovation Challenge (ANIC).

Program dates have been set, and the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) will reopen its recruitment of U.S. journalists to take part in the first round of the Young Media Professionals Exchange Program, a two-year initiative between the United States and Russia. ICFJ’s work in the program is supported with a generous grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
