Call for Entries: Reporting Fellowship on Migration and Climate for Nigerian Journalists

Nigerian journalists are invited to apply for a reporting fellowship aimed at improved coverage of migration due to conflict or instability and the resulting impact on climate and economic prospects.

The program focuses on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals 10 and 13, which aim to “reduce inequality within and among countries” and “take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts” by 2030.

The Johnson & Johnson Global Health Reporting Contest, one of ICFJ’s flagship programs, has increased the quality and quantity of news coverage on key health issues in targeted countries and regions across the globe.

Now in its fourth year, ICFJ’s 2017 Global Health Reporting Contest seeks to continue building on the program’s previous years’ successes by catalyzing local networks of leading health reporters in Brazil, China, India, Russia, and sub-Saharan Africa.

Applications for the second round of Early Childhood Development Reporting Fellowships are now closed.

Interested in becoming an influencer and leader for children’s development in your country? If producing high quality reporting and solution-orientated stories about nutrition and early childhood development issues is one of your passions, then apply to this year-long fellowship, which will include two international reporting trips as well as continuing mentoring and several virtual webinars.

Nigeria: Generating new health and development-focused data sources to improve storytelling

ICFJ Knight Fellow Temi Adeoye, a digital project manager and technologist, leads projects to generate data sources and develop new reporting tools to improve digital storytelling in Nigeria.

Adeoye’s projects include “Dodgy Doctors,” an interactive tool that allows citizens to check whether their doctor is licensed to practice medicine. It was developed for Nigeria in partnership with Sahara Reporters, West Africa’s largest news site.
