Citizen Journalism Participant Hired At Newspaper After Conducting Influential Interview

Sep 72010

After breaking the news of the torture and death of Egyptian citizen Khalid Saeed by police forces, ICFJ’s Citizen Journalism program trainee Mohamed Abdelfattah was offered a job at Al Masry Al Youm, one of Egypt’s few independent newspapers.

Abdul Fattah was the first to interview eyewitnesses on Saeed’s case in Al Shurooq newspaper. He also has full coverage of video reports and blog posts on his blog.

In a Huffington Post blog post, Egyptian-American journalist and blogger, Mona El Tahawy, mentioned that Abdelfattah is an example of the new Egyptian generation who have become citizen journalists and whose work is picked up by news outlets.
