Kelly McEvers is an independent journalist based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Her work appears on National Public Radio, Marketplace, and the CBC.

She has reported in the Middle East since 2006 and has written for The New York Times Magazine, Slate, Esquire, and The New Republic. In 2004-2006 she worked in the former Soviet Union, mainly the Muslim republics in the Caucasus region. In 2003-2004 she was based in Jakarta, Indonesia, as a correspondent for NPR. From 1999-2000 she lived in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and worked for the BBC, the Christian Science Monitor, and the Cambodia Daily. She began her career as a staff writer for the Chicago Tribune's Internet and print editions.
