Yusuf Kaplan is a columnist of the Turkish daily Yeni Şafak and senior lecturer in media, cultural studies and history of ideas and civilizations.

Yusuf Kaplan is a columnist of the Turkish daily Yeni Şafak and senior lecturer in media, cultural studies and history of ideas and civilizations.He received his Master's degree in television studies at the University of East Anglia (UK), and his PhD in film theory at the University of Middlesex (UK).

He teaches film, media and cultural theory, and history of ideas and civilization at several universities in Turkey (including Bilgi / Knowledge University). Kaplan was an editor-in-chief of Yeni Şafak newspaper (1998-2000) and was the founding editor-in-chief of Turkish television, TV-5 (2002-2006).

He is the founding general director of Film and Television School of the BSF Akademi (Science, Arts and Philosphy Academy, Istanbul). He was awarded “Thinker of the Year 2003” by the Turkish Writers Union.
