Biodiversity Workshop - Belize


On Aug. 10-12, 2007 the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) will hold its second annual conservation workshop for journalists in Belize. This year’s group will go to the Chaa Creek Resort in Belzie’s Cayo District for seminars, practice sessions and field trips. Talks and field trips will cover agricultural runoff pollution, waste disposal, proposed dam construction and oil exploration and production in Belize. Click here for more information

Regional Prize for Reporting on Biodiversity and Sustainable Development for the Gulf of California

Mexican print journalists interested in biodiversity and sustainable development in the Gulf of California have until July 1 to apply for a journalism competition. The first three winners will receive MXN$10,000 (about US$915), MXN$5,000 and MXN$2,000 respectively. For more information, read the press release. Sponsored by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF), a joint venture of the Global Environment facility, the Government of Japan, the MacArthur Foundation and Conservation International
The goal of these workshops for Azerbaijani, Georgian and Russian (Republic of Dagestan) journalists is to clarify the importance of media in environmental protection and help journalists improve their coverage of conservation issues in the Caucasus region.

The 2007 Sustainable Development and Conservation in the Gulf of California Workshop

Program Dates: March 8-11

Sponsored by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation and the International Community Foundation
Partner: Center of Journalism and Public Ethics (CEPET) and Michigan State University’s Knight Center for Environmental Journalism
This project aims to build the capacity of the news media to cover the Gulf of California ’s development issues in depth. Growth issues range from the construction of a coastal highway, real estate development, tourism policies, agriculture, aquaculture, and climate change.  Our workshop will help local and national media improve its sustainable development coverage.

Building Awareness of Conservation in the Caucasus: Sponsored by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund, this program is designed to boost the capacity and motivation of journalists in the Caucasus region to report on conservation of biological diversity. Workshops in Georgia and Azerbaijan will train journalists from those two countries, Armenia, the republic of Dagestan and other southern Russian republics to cover biodiversity effectively, accurately and interestingly.
