AHJA's programs and activities include:

• Provide skills training, including e-learning and data and investigative reporting courses
• Promote the use of digital tools and multimedia story telling
• Create a website that offers resources and a platform for networking
• Build a database of health resources, experts and journalists
• Conduct a survey of African health and science journalism associations
• Support the formation of health journalism associations in Africa
• Give awards for excellence in health coverage in Africa
• Hold forums to advance public dialogue on health
• Identify potential partners and funders around the world
• Support cross-border health reporting
