Guidelines for Community Health Reporting Fellowship Project Proposal

Thanks to the generous support of the Hearst Foundations, ICFJ is building on its efforts to improve the coverage of minority health issues in the United States by opening applications for the Community Health Reporting Fellowship. U.S. journalists and bloggers who cover minority, low-income and rural communities are invited to submit a reporting-project proposal focusing on local health issues. ICFJ will select fellows, who will receive funding to support completion of their projects.
Proposals should be no more than 800 words and include the following information:
1- A succinct, one-or two-sentence description of the topic you plan to focus on during the fellowship.
2-A brief explanation of if and how the issue/topic has been covered previously, how it is relevant to your local community, and what aspects remain to be examined in future coverage.
3-Outline a preliminary logistical strategy for this assignment: Will you have to travel? What is the likely duration of the project?
4- How you plan to engage your audience by using multimedia, data and social media in the completed report.
5-Where the report will be published/posted/broadcast.
6-Include a detailed, estimated budget for the project up to $2,500.

We are no longer accepting applications for this fellowship.
