A group of four Mexican academics participated in an ICFJ week-long program in Washington, D.C. to learn new trends in journalism teaching and to experience journalism in the US capital. The program’s agenda includes visits to the schools of communication at American University and George Washington University, where they will meet with faculty members. The academics from the University of Guadalajara-CUCIENEGA will be visiting the Washington Post and the USA Today, two of the leading news organizations in the country.
ICFJ is proud to be able to expose journalism professors from Latin America to new ways of teaching journalism and to the challenges that the American media face in the 21st century, says Luis Manuel Botello, ICFJ’s program director for Latin America. “This program will expand their academic and journalism networks which will be useful to improve the journalism program in their university,” he said.
The Mexican journalism professors will have meetings at the US State Department. They will also visit National Public Radio (NPR), where they will be able to see some of the programs to promote public programming with the assistance of journalism students.
