The Douglas Tweedale Memorial Fellowship

Espaņol

The Fellowship Program
The six-week fellowship program will begin with a three-day orientation and professional program for the participant in Washington, D.C. The journalist then will depart for a two-week assignment in the newsroom of a Spanish-language media organization in the United States, followed by another assignment at a prestigious newspaper or TV station in Latin America. At the conclusion of the professional newsroom attachments, the fellow will attend a wrap-up and evaluation program which will include trainer-training techniques.

Application and Selection
Applicants should be early to mid-career journalists working at independent newspapers or television stations in Latin America. They should be committed to excellence in journalism, interested in improving their knowledge of the role of independent journalism and how it functions in a democratic society, and dedicated to developing strong professional skills.

Additionally, applicants must have enough proficiency in the English language to comprehend assignments and conduct their work and personal activities in an English language environment even though they will write their stories in Spanish.

Interested candidates should fill out an application form. Completed applications must be received by the International Center for Journalists by June 1, 2007. The fellowship will take place in the fall/winter of 2007.

Program Costs
The fellowship provides international airfare to and from the United States and the site of the second program attachment in Latin America; program-related travel expenses within the United States and the site of the second program attachment; a housing and meal allowance; and health insurance for the duration of the program.
