Deadline: April 16
I, the undersigned, understand and agree that the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ),
as fellowship administrator, is under no obligation to select me or any other applicant for the
McGee Journalism Fellowships in Southern Africa. If selected to be a McGee Fellow, I will agree
to the premises and conditions set forth in the following statement:
|
- The primary purpose of the fellowship is to assist journalists in southern Africa; I am not
seeking this Fellowship for purposes of tourism, job seeking or personal or professional reasons
that are irrelevant or contrary to the fellowship's mission.
- As a precondition, I agree to:
- accept the general assignment and destination designated by ICFJ;
- take part in the fellowship orientation in Washington, D.C., on dates designated by the
fellowship administrator; if requested, undertake additional preparation for assignment, such
as participating in language classes, which will be made available by the fellowship
administrator;
- work with media and other organizations to fashion a compatible and useful program in
the designated country or countries;
- write within 30 days of returning from my Fellowship, an evaluation report on the Fellowship
that will include a description of the state of the media in the country I was assigned to.
Appended to the report will be pictures, workshop curricula, reports prepared by journalists
trained by the fellow, etc. Unless otherwise agreed to previously, ICFJ will retain all the
rights to reports, articles and other editorial products produced during the fellowship period.
- I understand that in order to maximize the use of fellowship resources, all my travel will
be on economy class and that in certain cases, living conditions may not be comparable to
United States standards.
- I understand that the fellowship administrator may terminate my fellowship at any time for
reasons that are regarded as detrimental to the fellowship, to be determined at the sole
discretion of the fellowship administrator or sponsor.
- I will be responsible for my own passport and visa arrangements and may be asked to
assist with other logistical arrangements related to my specific assignment as determined
by the fellowship administrator.
- If currently employed and accepted for this fellowship, I agree to obtain written
permission from my employers to obtain a leave of absence for the duration of the fellowship
period (this may be waived in certain circumstances).
- 7. If I decline the specific assignment, time period or destination selected for me, I may
do so without prejudice to future consideration if I have made and explained this decision
for reasons that the fellowship administrator regards as sound.
- For my assignment, the fellowship administrator will pay the following expenses:
- round-trip economy airfare from my home city in the United States to the assignment country/city;
- ground and air fellowship-related travel expenses within the United States and abroad;
- living expenses in accordance with generally accepted local standards for the assignment country (the
portion allocated for housing may be deducted from the per diem in cases where housing is provided by a
host organization);
- an honorarium of approximately $100 for each day of my fellowship overseas;
- health insurance coverage during the fellowship.
- If I am accepted for this program, it is for a single fellowship assignment only, and there
is no obligation or expectation of future participation in the program once the assignment is
completed. However, I understand that I may reapply for subsequent fellowships.
- I understand and agree that the program is not under any obligation to pay my spouse's
or any other traveling companion's expenses.
- I understand and agree that, if any harm comes to me or my family during the program,
neither ICFJ nor The McGee Foundation can be held responsible or liable.
- If I am selected and accept a McGee Fellowship, I and the program administrator will
enter into a final and binding agreement prior to beginning the program.
