ICFJ condemns the killing of U.S. journalist James Foley

Aug 202014

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) strongly condemns the heartless execution of James Foley, a freelance foreign correspondent, who was abducted during a reporting trip to Syria in 2012. ICFJ extends condolences to Foley’s family.

Foley was a freelancer for GlobalPost and the Agence France-Presse. He specialized in covering conflicts, reporting from war zones throughout the Middle East.

Foley’s mother, Diane, said her son will be remembered as “a courageous, fearless journalist.” She added: “We’re so proud of Jim. He just had a deep courage. Jim wanted to bear witness to all the suffering. He had an incredible heart and he always cared about people who were suffering.”

Foley’s father called his son “a martyr for freedom.”
