Knight International Journalism Fellow and founder of Chicas Poderosas, Mariana Santos, was recently featured in Público, one of the most popular Portuguese online news sites. Its newest series, “Portugeses com Certeza” (“Portuguese for Sure”), features young professionals in Portugal and around the world who work in media and engineering, and represent success in their respective fields.

Santos was the first to be interviewed in Público’s series, discussing her start at London's The Guardian, where she worked for three years with the interactive and animation team.

She also discussed her newest venture, Chicas Poderosas, an organization which is training women to participate in technology in newsrooms throughout Latin America. Santos said she thought of the idea while working at the Guardian, but “didn’t know it would be called Chicas Poderosas…but [is] sharing the plan and dream of creating a disruptive training system for journalism.”

The video (in Portuguese) can be viewed on Público's site.
