It is a space where journalists can go to see what activities are happening in Timor-Leste on any given day. For instance, one organization might be hosting a news conference, another might be launching a new project, still another might be hosting a conference.

For the President and the two Ambassadors, it was their first-ever visit to one of ICFJ’s Regional Media Houses – and they were impressed. When Ximenes described how the media house provides a safe place for journalists to work and at the same time offers an internet café to the entire community, President Jose Ramos-Horta exclaimed: “That's good, you are helping to provide information to the community."

Gil Guterres picked up the champagne bottle and started shaking it. The president of the Center for Journalism Investigations Timor-Leste had a huge smile on his face and the crowd was cheering him on. Suddenly, he popped the cork and the champagne went airborne. The crowd cheered.

Timorese journalists can now turn to a new book when they are stumped on how to spell a particular word or need to know the precise spelling of a place or organization. ICFJ launched the new book, titled “Mata Dalan Ba Journalista Sira” or Guide for Journalists on Tuesday, May 25.
