Knight International Journalism Fellow Gustavo Faleiros will build on the success of his first Knight International Journalism Fellowship last year, during which he launched a digital map that uses open data to monitor the Amazon. He will expand the map, called InfoAmazonia, to make it possible for news websites to easily generate and embed customized maps on the environment. Faleiros will create a “citizen desk” at InfoAmazonia to gather data from the public on issues like water and air quality. He will develop the Eco News Lab to nurture technology that improves reporting on the environment. With European Youth Press, he will also lead or support workshops in Brazil, Nigeria, Moldova and the Philippines, and create a new data and geo-journalism multimedia toolkit.
