Unilever Journalism Exchange Program for Journalists from Ghana

ICFJ administered the 2011 Unilever Journalism Exchange Program for journalists from Ghana.


Samuel Kwaku Agyemang of Metropolitan Television (Metro TV) in Accra participated in the 2011 Unilever Journalism Exchange Program for journalists from Ghana. Agyemang was named the Best Journalist of the Year in Ghana in 2009. Agyemang studied economics and statistics and his reporting has focused on urban poverty, low-income housing and community building.

As part of his participation in the Unilever Journalism Exchange Program, Agyemang enrolled in journalism courses at New York University.

Following the completion of his coursework at NYU, Agyemang had one-on-one meetings in New York City with staff at The Associated Press, The New York Times, CBS, The Wall Street Journal, AOL/Huffington Post, ProPublica, Human Rights Watch, the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) and CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.

In Washington, D.C., Agyemang had meetings with staff from the Economist, CNN, C-SPAN, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund and received a personal tour of The Washington Post.

Agyemang also completed an attachment at Voice of America and received personalized digital media training at ICFJ’s headquarters.
