Photo Auction

Window Into History Through the Lens of David Burnett

To mark ICFJ's 30th Anniversary, we will hold a special photo auction at our Awards Dinner on Nov. 10. The collection of 15 signed photos showcases the work of renowned photojournalist David Burnett. For more than 40 years, Burnett has captured the visual tempo of our era. His images are a sweeping look across time and continents. Please click through our slideshow below. Even if you cannot attend our event, you can still place a bid—and take home a piece of history.

Burnett's images portray famous figures and key events as well as evoke the spirit of citizens caught in the grip of change. Named one of the “100 Most Important People in Photography” by American Photo magazine, he has worked in more than 80 countries for news outlets such as Time magazine and National Geographic through Contact Press Images, the agency he co-founded.

He captures the elegance of Lady Diana before the doomed “Wedding of the Century” and the grittiness of U.S. soldiers after the invasion of Grenada. Iconic leaders from Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to reggae master Bob Marley are classic Burnett subjects. There are stunning photos of the last voyage of a luxury liner and the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of D-Day.

ICFJ extends sincere thanks to David Burnett and to The Associated Press for its generous sponsorship of the 2014 Photo Auction. Proceeds from the sale will be used for programs that advance quality journalism worldwide. This year’s collection of photos is part of an exclusive, limited edition. Bidding starts at $500 and will increase in $500 increments. ICFJ is also offering one complete set of 15 photos. To place a bid or make an inquiry about the complete collection, please email Jillian Nowlin at jnowlin@icfj.org. You'll be supporting ICFJ—and gaining a memorable work of art.
