Medical Tourism: A Patient's Journey
With one out of every four Texans without health insurance, the idea of traveling abroad for cheaper health care is gaining traction. In this series, Corrie MacLaggan examined the new world of medical tourism in India. She followed a truck driver on an odyssey to Chennai to get his hip replaced.
Corrie MacLaggan is the health and human services reporter for the Austin American-Statesman. She is based at the state capitol when the legislature is in session, covering issues such as Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program, and Child Protective Services.
A native of Austin, MacLaggan has written for the Statesman's Spanish-language newspaper, ¡ahora sí!, and has worked as a reporter in El Paso and in Mexico City. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
