A staff writer for the St. Petersburg Times, Kris Hundley traveled to India to report on clinical drug trials there. She found overburdened hospitals with weak oversight testing on ill-informed people a growing array of experimental drugs, which are predominantly developed for markets in the United States. Her series has won awards from The National Press Photographers Association and the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.
Hundley has been a business reporter covering the business of medicine, globalization, emerging businesses and venture capital. Since August 2008 she has worked as an investigative reporter on longer-term assignments. Among the topics covered have been understaffing of critical care nurses at a leading children’s hospital, the money and experience behind Florida’s newest property insurers and Florida’s acquisition of U.S. Sugar. In 2008, she won the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors, Explanatory Reporting first place award. Hundley is a graduate of Smith College.
