IJNet Elections Reporting Toolkit Consultant

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., is seeking a consultant or team of consultants to develop a toolkit in English and Spanish of expert resources on elections reporting for its IJNet English and Spanish sites.

The consultant(s) will be tasked with producing engaging, evergreen resources that draw on timely lessons learned and best practices around elections reporting. The consultant(s) will design the toolkit resources to be of interest and use for English and Spanish-speaking journalists both in the U.S. and globally.  

The ideal candidate or team of candidates has a background in elections reporting, and must be fluent in both Spanish and English.

Responsibilities

  • Determine best practices, important tools, and lessons learned in elections reporting.
  • Generate an outline of topics for toolkit resources, and their format.
  • Identify relevant reporters and experts to interview.
  • Produce 6-10 expert resources to be published on IJNet, including:
  • Case studies
  • Evergreen resources detailing tips and tools related to computational journalism
  • Multimedia resources

Timeframe

The consultancy should begin in March 2023 and will last approximately 2 months, based on effective completion of deliverables, as determined by ICFJ headquarters program staff. This is a part-time consultancy. 

Location

The consultant(s) will work remotely, and report to the IJNet Director in the Washington, D.C. headquarters. 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic institution; 
  • Master’s degree or higher strongly preferred;
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience working in journalism;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with elections reporting;
  • Familiarity with Spanish and English-speaking media landscape;
  • Familiarity with related topics such as disinformation, digital security, and more;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
