Mexico Border Investigative Reporting Hub – Media Consultancy

ICFJ is looking for a media and organizational leadership consultant to work with one of our partners in Mexico. The consultancy will focus on how to develop a sustainable business model, building a solid team, and strengthening the interaction with a community of more than 200 journalists.

Responsibilities: The consultant will work with the ICFJ team, the organization's director, and others interacting with this organization. The consultant will have the following tasks:

  • Assess the current strategies, institutionalization processes, management, strategic planning, and implementation of activities.
  • Develop a document outlining the strengths, weaknesses, external opportunities and potential threats of the organization.
  • Provide recommendations on how to improve internal process and workflow; strategies to manage the organization; planning and implementation of activities; assessing the results and impact of activities; and developing a sustainable business model.
  • Meet with ICFJ and provide bi-monthly progress reports about the evolutions of the consultancy.
  • Provide a final report that includes the comprehensive assessment and recommendations moving forward.

Timeframe: The consultancy should begin immediately and last one year. 

Location: This position can be based in any location, but the person has to understand the context of Mexican media outlets. The consultant will report to the Senior Program Director and Program Manager for this project, but will also be in close contact with the director of the partner organization. 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3-6 years of proven experience as a media consultant.
  • One or two references from previous clients.
  • Extensive knowledge of team management, nonprofit and media business models.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Understanding of journalism and the media landscape in México and Latin America.
  • Working bilingual capability in Spanish and English (not mandatory)
