Located: Washington DC. Temporarily Remote Due to COVID-19. A hybrid model, a mix of remote and in-person, in summer 2022.

ICFJ is looking to add to its global  staff by hiring a Technology and Data Operations Manager. The Technology and Data Operations Manager is a critical position within ICFJ and plays a key role in guiding the technological direction of ICFJ by managing the organization's Salesforce database, overseeing digital security policies and practices, and directing all online operations and platforms. This role would make you part of ICFJ’s Content & Community Team under the supervision of the Director of Community Engagement.

  • Oversee all technology operations and platforms and evaluate them according to the organization's strategic goals. 
  • Devise and establish IT policies and systems to support the implementation of strategies set by the executive team. 
  • Analyze each department’s technology needs to ensure each staff member has access to the proper tools
  • Manage relations with all technology contractors.
  • Manage the organization’s technology budgets.
  • Manage the organization’s Salesforce, Asana, Dropbox, Slack, Mailchimp, Google Workspace, 1Password and all other technology applications and associated licenses and user accounts.
  • Work with Programs staff to develop best practices for collecting and managing program data
  • Help the organization stay up-to-date with the latest technologies
  • Develop and implement the organization's digital security policies and practices, and review compliance on a regular basis
  • Consult with the organization’s IT contractor as needed to maintain the physical and digital security of the organization’s computer hardware and software
  • Ensure ICFJ and IJNet websites are up to date and following digital security best practices
  • For (a Drupal site) and other ICFJ-owned domains along with
    • Provide more advanced technical support to staff, bringing in web developer contractor as needed
    • Consult with web developer contractor as needed to maintain website security
    • Work closely with the Communications team in managing and sometimes implementing website projects, such as enhancements, upgrades, etc.
    • Manage associated licenses and user accounts
  • Advise and guide staff on best practices for launching e-learning platforms, microsites, etc. as needed
  • Assist the C&C Team and the Director of Community Engagement in the design and implementation of ideas and project planning in building ICFJ’s digital journalism community and reaching community objectives.


  • A minimum of 3 years of experience. 
  • Technical training or credentials (e.g., Comptia Security+, Network+, Microsoft Azure Database Administrator, Certified Data Management Professional) in database architecture, business intelligence, and financial services along with programming and web development are a plus.
  • Experience and detailed understanding of database management and administration and data architecture. 
  • Familiarity with Salesforce as a user or administrator
  • Expert proficiency with business application software (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc.).  
  • Expertise in using and configuring cloud-based business solutions for email, project management and data management (for example: MailChimp, Asana, Airtable, FormAssembly)
  • Familiarity with information security and cybersecurity principles and best practices (ISO 27001, CIS Cybersecurity Controls) and experience with secure practices for database and password management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including customer service. 
  • Experience in training staff. 
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly build rapport with colleagues across functional areas. 
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field or an advanced degree in computer science, information technology
