Aldana Vales is the managing editor of the International Journalists’ Network (IJNet), ICFJ’s website that delivers the latest on global media innovation, news apps and tools, and professional opportunities in eight languages. She also runs Velocidad, a pioneering accelerator for Latin American news startups implemented in partnership with SembraMedia.
Prior to her work on IJNet, she managed the ICFJ Knight Fellowships, ICFJ’s flagship initiative, and was in charge of the Social Media Solutions Training, a program that equips journalists in the Middle East and North Africa with the latest tools and digital skills.
Before joining ICFJ, Vales worked with the Membership Puzzle Project, helping media organizations experiment with audience-centered business models. She also worked on community engagement with Documented in New York and Economía Femini(s)ta in Buenos Aires.
Originally from Argentina, Vales graduated from the University of Buenos Aires with a bachelor’s degree in communication sciences. She also has a master’s degree in journalism and digital innovation from New York University. She is a native Spanish speaker and loves drinking mate.
