Cassandra Balfour is responsible for implementing and administering programs for journalists from around the globe. In addition to running programs in the United States, including A Digital Path to Entrepreneurship and Innovation for Latin America, she has managed or supported programs in Brazil, Finland, Morocco, South Africa and Sri Lanka on behalf of ICFJ.
Before coming to ICFJ, Balfour worked for the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. While an undergraduate, she volunteered in Nicaragua and studied abroad in Egypt, where she interned with a media monitoring NGO. She also worked as a reporter and editor at the Michigan Daily.
She was a 2009 Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism fellow which solidified her belief that journalism is instrumental to creating lasting change. Her interest in both journalism and the nonprofit world led her to ICFJ.
