Franlis Alvarez

Director, Finance and Accounting

Growing up in a communist country (Cuba), where freedom of the press is nonexistent, ICFJ’s mission really struck a chord with me. Currently, I supervise ICFJ's accounting team, which includes: developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, procedures and internal controls to ensure accurate and timely financial reports.

My background: My career in finance started in Cuba, where I was the team lead for the accounting department in the army. Upon my arrival to the United States, I worked in several nonprofits, each with a different mission (the Diabetes Research Institute, Best Buddies International and Habitat for Humanity, to name a few).

I have my bachelor of business administration with a concentration in economics from the Universidad de Oriente in my native Cuba. Most recently, I obtained my CNAP (Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional). I speak Spanish and English fluently.

Ask me about: Cooking, wine, cooking with wine, and my travels

My pronouns: He/him/his
