As Vice President of Programs, Johanna Carrillo is responsible for ensuring the organization delivers high-impact opportunities to the thousands of journalists in ICFJ’s growing network.
Working with staff, Carrillo oversees as many as 70 programs a year for journalists. They range from media innovation programs such as the flagship ICFJ Knight Fellowships to investigative reporting networks such as Connectas. All are designed to support journalists to do exceptional reporting that helps improve governments, economies, societies and even lives.
Originally from Chile, Carrillo is a native Spanish speaker, fluent in English and Portuguese and proficient in French. Her previous experience includes serving as ICFJ's deputy vice president of programs, senior program director, and director of the International Journalists' Network (IJNet). In Chile, she worked as an associate producer on Televisión Nacional de Chile (TVN) and as a project manager and field producer at JL Producciones in Santiago.
Carrillo studied journalism and communications, and has traveled to more than 40 countries, carrying the ICFJ flag to many of them.
