Johanna Carrillo

Vice President, Programs

Designing and managing global programs and working with multicultural teams are two of my biggest passions. My team runs as many as 80 programs a year, ranging from media innovation initiatives to digital video accelerators to investigative reporting networks. There is nothing like seeing tangible examples of how these programs improve people’s lives and make this world safer, healthier and better informed.

My background: I studied journalism and communications in Chile, and worked as a TV producer at TVN there. I moved to the U.S. in 2003, and ever since I have traveled the world running ICFJ programs for journalists in Latin America, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Before joining the programs team I was the director of IJNet, where I led the addition of Arabic, Persian and Russian to the site. I am certified in Project Management in Development (PMD Pro) and in 2021 I did a certificate course on diversity and inclusion at Cornell University. I am a native Spanish speaker, fluent in English and Portuguese.
