Haji Mohamed Dawjee

Journalist, Media Lecturer, and Long Covid Public Advocacy Representative

Haji Mohamed Dawjee is a writer, media professional, and columnist. She has written two books: Here’s the Thing (2022), which was a top-selling book in South Africa, and Sorry, Not Sorry: Experiences of a Brown Woman in a White South Africa (2018) which   was longlisted for the Alan Paton award. Dawjee’s journalism work has been published by BBC, Sunday Times, and Tortoise Media. She was awarded the top story award for Lut's People: How to be gay and Muslim in South Africa by the International Women's Foundation and has written policy documents in the fight against Long Covid.

With this fellowship, she plans to report on the use of advanced technology related to Long Covid, such as the analysis of biomarkers and blood samples. Dawjee seeks to highlight an urgent need for greater transparency and accessibility in Long Covid research, as well as the importance of patient-led research to drive medical progress.
