Katia Lopez-Hodoyan

Katia Lopez-Hodoyan is an award-winning bilingual journalist with vast experience in television and print news. She is a freelance reporter for La Prensa San Diego, where she writes stories in English and Spanish.

Lopez-Hodoyan recently came back from Rome, where she worked as a foreign correspondent for Rome Reports. For five years, she covered stories for television markets in the United States and Latin America, including the election of Pope Francis and the terror attacks in Paris. She also covered papal trips to Israel, Palestine, Jordan and Bosnia-Herzegovina. In light of the current instability in the Middle East, for one month, Lopez-Hodoyan lived in a refugee camp, gaining a firsthand perspective on the immigration crisis and how it is affecting Europe and the Middle East. Before heading to Europe, Lopez-Hodoyan worked as a general assignment reporter and producer for NBC's local station in San Diego (KNSD). She also worked as an assignment editor and writer for Univision San Diego (KBNT). Lopez-Hodoyan is from the San Diego/Tijuana border region. She was raised and educated on both sides of the border. She is a graduate of the University of San Francisco, where she received a bachelor’s degree in media studies.

During her ICFJ-UNF Fellowship, Lopez-Hodoyan published Looking for a Place to Call Home and Buscando un Hogar.
