Sarah Ooko

Science Reporter

Ooko is a science and development journalist based in Nairobi. She writes for the Business Daily newspaper, which is one of the publications of the Nation Media Group (NMG). Her career in journalism began in 2010. Before her current position, she worked mainly as a freelancer and contributed articles to various local and international outlets.

Her interest is centred on three common issues health, agriculture and environment- as they are central to Kenya and ultimately Africa attaining the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Through her writing, she strives to bridge the gap between science news sources and the lay public since without information there can be no change. Similarly, only empowered citizens can lobby for reforms from policymakers. Amidst all, she strives to make the African voice more audible in the global sphere, so that the world can listen to our side of the story.

Project Proposal: Ooko would like to gain more knowledge on the economic impact of maternal and child health challenges to livelihoods in Sub-Saharan Africa. Without this information, governments will not feel pressured to address these problems.
