Overview

The Knight International Journalism Fellowships, ICFJ’s flagship program, make lasting, tangible changes that improve the free flow of news and information in the public interest around the world.

Funded since 1994 by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Knight International’s Fellows have worked in more than 90 countries. Fellows have created digital media schools and launched journalism associations and citizen-reporting networks. They have built mobile and online news services that for the first time give people access to information and a voice in their communities.

In sub-Saharan Africa, Fellows supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have helped to expand and improve reporting on issues critical to health and development, ranging from HIV/AIDS and malaria to agriculture and infrastructure. Coverage of these and other issues produced with support from Fellows has led to dozens of changes in policy, practice and law – and has improved lives.

Knight International’s Fellows bring a broad range of skills, experience and knowledge to their work. They also embody the entrepreneurial spirit needed to make the changes they inspire last beyond their Fellowships. Knight International Journalism Fellowships are open to qualified candidates from any country.
