Caitlin Shekleton

Program Assistant

My admiration for the power of the written word to share global stories of humanity is what drew me to ICFJ. I’m passionate about the importance of fact-based reporting and high-quality journalism, which is essential to our increasingly globalized and digital society. As part of my role at ICFJ, I assist with the implementation of programs that help empower journalists to disarm disinformation, create innovative reporting projects, and more.

My background: Having grown up between the United States, Germany and Italy, I’ve been immersed in diverse cultures around the world since a young age. This sparked my interest to pursue a career path that would allow me to advance social justice issues on a global scale. My journey in the nonprofit sector began in 2021 with Libraries Without Borders US, where I helped fundraise for innovative programs that bridge the digital divide and expand equitable access to information.

For the past several years, I’ve also volunteered in my free time as a grant writer for Bennett's Village, which is building the first all-abilities, multigenerational play space in Charlottesville, Virginia, to positively transform the way our world views disability inclusion.

I graduated from the University of Virginia with bachelor’s degrees in global studies (Middle East & South Asia) and Italian studies, along with a minor in data science.

Ask me about: Disability inclusion, watching documentaries, cross-stitch and embroidery.
