Pedro Nakamura

Pedro Nakamura is an investigative reporter based in Porto Alegre, Brazil. He currently investigates the tobacco industry for O Joio e o Trigo, a news outlet that holds corporations that harm food systems, health, and climate accountable.

His stories have been published by Brazil’s legacy media, including Estadão, VEJA Saúde, UOL, and Zero Hora, as well as independent news sites such as Matinal, Núcleo, and Intercept Brasil. His byline also appeared on the U.S.-based website Rest of World, where he was a Labor × Tech fellow in the 2025 program cohort, writing stories in English.

He is a two‑time Pulitzer Center grantee in collaboration with the science podcast Ciência Suja, and has received seven awards for investigations he authored or co‑authored, including the ARI/Banrisul, Amrigs, Não Aceito Corrupção, and Livre.Jor de Jornalismo‑Mosca prizes.

He holds a B.A. in Journalism and is specialized in International Relations – Geopolitics and Defense, both from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS).
