Sally Mashaly

Sally Mashaly was a 2014 ICFJ Professional Fellow from the Middle East, on the program "Unlocking the Economic Potential of Digital Media." She has worked as a reporter and editor for many journalistic websites including Islamonline, HawaaWorld.com, and the websites of Qatar’s Al Arab newspaper and Egypt’s Shorouk newspaper. After the Egyptian uprising of 2011, Mashaly became Editor-in-Chief of Noreed.com, a multimedia website aimed at raising political awareness especially among youth. Mashaly led the contributors in producing articles, profiles, animated cartoons, videos, and interactive items. The website team promoted citizen journalism with contests and seminars around the country, and soon gained 1 million followers on Facebook. Mashaly is a mentor in BBC Media Action’s Media Neighbourhood Project and the Aspire Woman initiative. She holds a bachelor’s in commerce from Cairo University.
