New database search tool in Argentina makes contracts available for scrutiny

Former ICFJ Knight Fellow Sandra Crucianelli has developed "Buscador del Boletín Oficial", a powerful database and search tool for journalists in Argentina seeking contracts related to state budgets and public spending. The database covers the period between 2000 and 2015 and contains over 8,400 PDF documents.

Meet new ICFJ Knight Fellow Stephen Abbott Pugh

Digital journalist Stephen Abbott Pugh will be joining the Code for Africa team as an ICFJ Knight International Journalism Fellow. Abbott Pugh joins ICFJ Knight Fellows Justin Arenstein, Chris Roper, Babatunde Akpeji and Raymond Joseph in the program, which aims to help journalists adopt digital storytelling tools that will hopefully draw new audiences to four countries: Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria and South Africa. Faleiros interviews UN expert on climate technology

Faleiros also interviewed Jukka Uosukainen, director of the UN’s Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), for the Climate Knowledge Brokers (CKB) Group. They discussed how CTCN shares information about climate technologies to track environmental changes that will help craft more effective climate strategy.

Chicas Poderosas Stanford wraps up

The Chicas Poderosas Stanford event led by former ICFJ Knight Fellow Mariana Santos brought together over 80 media professionals at Stanford University to explore empowerment strategies for women working in media. "The aim of the conference was to bring together women who Mariana saw as leaders or potential leaders and discuss how they can create local chapters of Chicas Poderosas,” ICFJ Deputy Vice President of Programs Elisa Tinsley told 7dias (in Spanish).

Mariano Blejman conducts a webinar on best digital media innovation practices

ICFJ Knight Fellow Mariano Blejman recently led a webinar on strategies for starting innovative digital media projects that can potentially attract investment. Blejman also shared ideas about how to successfully apply to Media Factory, the media innovation incubator he helped start. Here is the video recording of the hour-long video in Spanish. The deadline to apply for the 2015 class of Media Factory is August 2.

Media Innovation Bootcamps coming to Latin America in July and August

Blejman's Media Factory will hold a series of Media Innovation Bootcamps in Argentina, Chile, Peru, Mexico and Colombia starting in July. The first bootcamp will be in Buenos Aires on July 9, 2015.
