China’s Business Journalism Education Program to Expand at Tsinghua University

Knight Foundation support helps increase student body, deepen curriculum

WASHINGTON – The International Center for Journalists is expanding its pioneering Global Business Journalism Program at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

A $125,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the nation’s leading journalism funder, will help the center expand the program’s student body, deepen its curriculum and create new partnerships.

GBJ Student Publishes Article on Mandatory Military Training for University Students

What started out as an assignment in a feature writing course for the Global Business Journalism program at Tsinghua University evolved into a major feature on the website of Foreign Policy magazine.

Eric Fish, a second-year student in the master's program co-sponsored by ICFJ, became interested in the annual ritual of several weeks of military training that most university freshmen in China have to undergo. It involves marching, physical training and patriotic education.

China Journalism School Graduates New Class of Business-Savvy Students

At the ceremony, 33 students received their Masters' Degrees in Global Business Journalism and 16 students received certificates. Graduates and their guests were treated to addresses by Dean Shi Anbin and Professor Hang Min of the School of Communications, in addition to Bank of America's Claire Huang, Bloomberg's Bruce Grant and ICFJ's Joyce Barnathan.
