Window into History Through the Lens of David Burnett

The Diana Moment
St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, 1981

The excitement grew as the world watched the “Royal Wedding” of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in July 1981. On assignment London Sunday Times Magazine & Time Magazine, photojournalist David Burnett looked for the perfect scene to snap a picture of the young bride who had captivated a global audience. He found the “Diana Moment” when she looked back at the crowd, her gown--one of the most famous dresses in the world--accentuated by the linear steps leading to the church. Despite the fairy-tale wedding, so elegantly captured by Burnett, the marriage was ill-fated almost from the start. Diana fans worldwide still remember this seemingly blissful moment.
