ICFJ+ and Project C to Map Standout News Creators Worldwide

By: ICFJ | 09/30/2025

There are a lot of talented news creators out there doing compelling journalistic work. But finding them can be hard.

That’s why ICFJ+ and Project C are teaming up to launch regional lists of news creators to watch across the globe. The goal is simple: surface and elevate news creators who are building deep relationships with loyal audiences across newsletters, video, podcasts, social media, and more.

ICFJ+ is the civic technology and media group created by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), Code for Africa and PROTO. Project C is the creator-focused hub started by former Vox Vice President Liz Kelly Nelson.

“There is a lot of innovative journalism in the creator space. The problem is discovery,” explains Maggie Farley, the vice president of strategic initiatives at ICFJ. “We hope this list helps answer the question, ‘Who is worth following or partnering with?’ and the increased visibility helps these creators build a community.”

Building on Project C’s Top 50 U.S. list, the collaboration will produce regional lists of news creators to watch, focusing on Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and South and Southeast Asia, with plans to expand to more regions in 2026. Each list will identify a non-ranked set of standout news creators whose work exemplifies creativity, community engagement, journalistic ethics and impact in their local or regional context. Creators who spark and shape fact-driven conversations with audiences will be prioritised.

These lists will ultimately spotlight trailblazing creators for newsrooms, partners, funders and others working in this media ecosystem to partner with.
