Countering Disinformation in Pakistan: Essential Skills for Journalists

Journalists across Pakistan working to fight rising disinformation had the opportunity to sharpen their skills and receive funding to pursue reporting, through a program from ICFJ in partnership with Media Matters for Democracy and supported by the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad.

Participants in the program, called Actions for Countering Disinformation and Information Value-System Empowerment (ACDIVE), learned tools and best practices for fact-checking, investigative reporting and data analysis in a time of rampant disinformation.

Pakistan ACDIVE offered participating journalists working in both traditional and digital media:

  • In-person training, led by both local and U.S. experts in various languages, on a variety of essential reporting skills required to counter false and misleading information in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi
  • Small grants for participants to pursue reporting on critical yet under-reported issues in Pakistan
