Data Journalism in Tunisia: Skills to Drive High-Quality Reporting

Journalists in Tunisia interested in data journalism had the opportunity to further develop their skills and receive funding to pursue reporting through this program from ICFJ, in partnership with the Media Development Centre and supported by the U.S. Embassy in Tunisia.

Participants in the program learned and sharpened their skills in data journalism, including fact-checking, data analysis and investigative reporting.

Data Journalism in Tunisia offered participating journalists working in both traditional and digital media:

  • An online training series on data journalism
  • In-person training on data journalism and investigative reporting
  • A “training of trainers” workshop for the local cohort of specialized data journalism trainers
  • Small grants for participants to pursue reporting on investigative journalism projects

This program also received an extension to bring select participating journalists to the Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ) conference in December 2023.
