Mastering Digital Video in Asia Pacific and Latin America

“Digital video allows journalists to tell stories and engage audiences, particularly young people, in a way no other format can — and that’s why initiatives like this are so important.”

Johanna Carrillo, Vice President, Programs

Newsrooms in the Asia Pacific and Latin America regions have the opportunity to grow their digital video storytelling, production and performance, through a masterclass from ICFJ and PROTO, supported by the Meta Journalism Project (MJP).

As part of the Digital Video Masterclass, participants will design and implement robust video strategies, improve storytelling and production values, and increase distribution through data-driven analysis. The six-month program includes:

  • 10 pre-recorded video modules where participants learn core topics, undertake assignments
  • 4 live sessions where participants present their work and discuss with trainers
  • Coaching and grant funding to execute projects using lessons learned
  • A community of practice where people collaborate and support each other’s progress

“Our newsroom partners in Indonesia and the Philippines will have the opportunity to learn from some of the world’s best minds on digital video, so they can grow their own video operations and better serve their audiences.”

The program began with a cohort of 12 publishers from Indonesia and the Philippines. The Indonesia publishers are: Detik.com, Kompas.com, Suara.com, IDNTimes.com, Medcom.id and Merdeka.com. The Philippine publishers are: Bombo Radyo Philippines, Inquirer, One News Cignal TV, SunStar, The Manila Times, The Philippine Star.

Applications for the next participant group, from Latin America, closed April 23rd, 2022. The selected Latin American newsrooms for this program are:
