A special event with Rappler CEO Maria Ressa, winner of the 2018 ICFJ Knight International Journalism Award; Julie Posetti, ICFJ Global Director of Research; moderated by ICFJ Board Director Richard Gingras, Vice President of News at Google.
ICFJ’s newest research for UNESCO reveals how online violence against women journalists is used to spread disinformation, undercut fact-based journalism and silence independent voices. No one knows this better than Filipino-American journalist Maria Ressa, who has experienced an onslaught of orchestrated online violence — from misogynistic attacks to death threats.
Join us May 6 at 10:30 AM EDT/2:30 PM GMT to mark World Press Freedom Day by discussing this devastating trend, in a conversation with Ressa and ICFJ Global Director of Research Julie Posetti, moderated by Google News Vice President Richard Gingras. They will discuss new ICFJ-UNESCO research on online violence as a weapon of disinformation and evolving strategies for fighting back. Ressa has long challenged tech giants to do more, and the panel will explore what needs to be done to combat this scourge.
